The wedge is here, and here to stay. Every year we see more and more wedges out there and I must say that I finally feel they have become a staple in everyone's collection. The wedge heel to me is a great way to present the high heel and is very wearable as well......

Winter will soon be creeping up on us and I thought it would be fun to showcase a bit of my work coming out of my Design Studio. I started Mark Schwartz Design Studio in 1998......

I have always loved flat booties, or flats in general. Most shoe designers will push the high heel, tell you there is nothing else like it, and I tend to agree but there is something about a cute flat shoe that has an effect on a woman as well. For me personally it is quite a challenge to come up with the right look that will make enough of a difference that a woman will treasure the shoe and put it amongst her favorite higher heels......

Black is black, but when one adds a bit of color to it, presto! Black is not black. I have and so many other designers have had a love affair with the color black, the little black dress, the little black bag, the little black boot. In this case, I have taken one of my favorite shapes long and lean and given it a racing stripe in pink......

To me boots have always been a symbol, a symbol that we are just around the corner of the fall and winter season. As we approach the last days of August, stores and boutiques worldwide are stocking there shelves with winter boots that will be sold out come the first days of September......

There is not one woman on the face of this planet that does not like to wear boots. I have seen women fight over them, spend their last dollar on them, do whatever it takes to own and wear the most fashionable pair that they can proudly display......

I have always been intrigued by the use of wood in shoe design. If you think about it wood has been used in the design process for hundreds of years in China and Japan. Wood tends to give a primitive feeling to any shoe and in this case I kept that look by using a straw or raffia upper and fringed the ends on both the upper and lower ends of the pattern to extend that rough unfinished look that I was trying to achieve......

Being born in New York City I have always been attracted to the shape and structure of buildings. There are a number of structures all over the world that stand out in our minds, that grab us and that may inspire us in more ways than we can imagine......

What inspires a designer? Is it what is going on around us at the time or what has happened to us in a different time that brings about design, shape and form......
Winter 2007/2008 Creation & Confusion by Hester Vlamings [07-02-07, 15:17]
Hester Vlamings
After a long, maybe too long period of creation, driven by a nostalgic need for ready-to-wear, layering detail upon detail upon detail, confusing all concepts from the 60's, 70's and the 80's as one, it is now time to rethink footwear and return to a quiet, clean cut fashion. Form and cut are important, not the details......
